I have this type of old school ballcock in my toilet... I know I should replace it but if I can just fix it then I would much rather do that than spend any money at all! This was exactly the problem in my toilet with the water constantly running and driving me crazy! The simple adjustment of the level (only a centimeters) completely stopped that water drip. I do, however, notice that there are bubble coming out the bottom of the "cock" part of the ballcock. Normal? My other toilets don't do it.
If you bend the bar UP, the float will have to be even higher to cause the valve to close. You should adjust the set screw on the ballcock valve, or if that is not possible, you should bend the bar DOWN so that the float closes the valve when the water level is still below the level of the overflow tube.

toilet has been doing this for months and just been shutting the water off after flush and refill..........took 5 minutes to fix using this trick. Thanks mush!!!
Why are you bending the rod when there is an adjustment screw? That said that type of ballcock is junk I would put in a new Fluidmaster 400A and a new flapper and be done with it!
